UV Water Filters information.
Ultraviolet disinfection is a chemical free, effective means of inactivating pathogens making your drinking water safe for human consumption. UV disinfection offers protection against microorganisms as well as chlorine resistant parasites such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia.
Municipal water supplies are treated prior to being delivered to your home, however on the contrary private water supplies (PWS) are the responsibility of the property owner. At Wateq, we recommend that all PWS should be at a bare minimum protected against microbiological contaminants. Installing a UV disinfection system on a municipal water supply provides peace of mind, especially in the event of boil water advisories, which occur when municipal treatment systems are compromised by infrastructure failure or flooding.
PWS doses in the UK are specified as 30 mJ/cm2 for England, Wales and Ireland and 40 mJ/cm2 for Scotland. At Wateq we always recommend that a 5µ filter should be installed prior to the UV disinfection.
Wateq’s UV systems offer a chemical free, low maintenance and cost effective means of protecting your water supply. For any help with sizing which system is suitable for your application please feel free to contact any of the Wateq team.
