ANTHRACITE

Anthracite is a naturally occurring coal that has been used in water treatment since ancient times. When crushed it makes an excellent medium density filtration media for turbidity removal. Because of the shape of the media and the angular nature of it, it allows turbidity to penetrate the filter bed deeper, meaning long bed life before it reaches capacity.

Because of the density of the media, it can be combined with other filter medias and used in multimedia filters to great effect. Examples of this would be with filter sand and gravel, to create many levels of turbidity removal.
